About Us

Providing feel good, thought provoking entertainment for all...

Mimic is a professional theatre company based in Hertfordshire and London. We stage new writing and our essential aim is to bring theatre back to its roots and bring about that connection amongst our audiences with tears, laughter and ultimately a few hours of entertainment.

As well as our adult company, we offer a youth theatre company with an Actor Training playground. We prioritise giving real industry experience to young actors and nurturing the future of the arts. Mimic explores bridging the gap between adults and youth and helps prepare young actors for a career in entertainment, by providing a safe space and encouraging self-belief. We believe the key to succeeding in the industry comes not only with a talent and drive, but with necessary knowledge and information alongside training in Stage and Screen.

Our Story

Mimic was founded by Kim Southey in 2018, after Kim graduated from RADA and Birkbeck on the MA in Text and Performance. It was then realised she needed to create a foundation and platform to stage her work from, and so she set up the theatre company, along with Mimic Stage School to combine her love and passion for both new writing, and musical theatre.

Starting out with just 19 students and two different venues in Welwyn, Mimic has now grown to multiple branches and venues, accommodating over 150 students at the stage school and the theatre company's youth theatre combined. Mimic has participated in festivals, flashmobs, films and adverts, and produced shows in theatres such as the Hope in Islington, Campus West, Market Theatre, Sandpit and very soon the new Beam Theatre in Hertford.

Mimic continues to offer professional experiences and opportunities to its students professionally such as masterclasses with trained experts in stage combat, puppetry, screen acting and more, theatre trips to the west End, auditions for multiple agencies including Aston Management, Hashtag Talent and FS Agency, auditions for TV shows including Michael Mcintyre's Big Show, professional music videos, and headshots with professional headshot photographers.

Countless numbers of our students have gone on to receive agency representation and work professionally in the industry as well as train at prestigious colleges including Elstree Screen Arts, Arts1, Rose Bruford and many more.

Mimic's first professional production, Growing Pains was co-produced with Sense of Place Theatre Company and staged at the Hope Theatre in Islington and received positive praise:

"An endearing and touching story. Heartwarming and funny; imaginative, exciting and playful...tugs wonderfully at the heartstrings." Everything Theatre, 2022

"Southey's writing is charming and heart-breaking. A beautiful message.' Dramagasm, 2022

"Really enjoyed Growing Pains. Promising new work." Kit Bromovsky, Reviewer, 2022
